What is Phantasia Jam?

Back for our second year Phantasia Jam is a three month long game jam.

Running August 1st to October 31st Phantasia Jam is focused on games with a fantasy settings. 

These games can be free or commercial, but must be produced entirely within the jam dates! 

With a Halloween finish line our goal is to bring players fantastical experiences in spellbinding new games and give developers a challenge with breathing room. 

But don't get too comfortable! Those three months will be over before you know it.

Something to note: This jam runs in Australian Eastern timezone, the exact dates for you may be different. A good resource for keeping track of the difference is this site, (we have set the link to the ending of the jam with a few different possible timezones.)

Rules:

- Your game must be created within the jam dates.

- Your game must fit the theme of the jam.

FAQ:

What constitutes fantasy? 

Not constrained by or set in real life reality.  

“Fantasy is a genre of speculative fiction involving magical elements, typically set in a fictional universe and sometimes inspired by mythology and folklore.”

For the purposes of this jam we are also including horror under the branch of fantasy, as long as the core lore is rooted in mythology or the supernatural. 

A Sci Fi base does not fit the theme of fantasy however.

Your game can be about anything but it must be a fantasy world / story at it's core. 

Is R18+ / NSFW allowed? 

Sensitive topics and NSFW are allowed but must be tagged appropriately. Entries that promote hate speech or bigotry (i.e. transphobia, homophobia, racism etc) are strictly not allowed and will be removed from the jam.

What am I allowed to do and when?

Your game must be created within the timelimit of the jam, that means all actual asset creation, writing, artwork etc must be created / sourced within the jam frame.

Before the jam starts you can:

- Recruit.
- Brainstorm.
- Concept.

During the jam only:

-Write.
-Code.
-Create / Source Assets.

You can also create your game page at any point during the jam!

Can I use pre-made assets / purchased assets in my game?

You can! During the jam you can obtain assets from anywhere that suits.

If you have assets you've purchased or downloaded already, you may use those as long as others have the same access to those resources.

No matter how you obtain your assets it is important you have the correct usage rights and have obtained all assets legally.

Many artists will even offer asset packs during the jam for sale or free here on Itch.

Can I enter my game in other jams as well as Phantasia?

We have no exclusivity on submissions, as long as your game fits the jams you want to enter you are free to submit! 

Can I submit a demo or WIP?

You can can submit your game in whatever state you are comfortable releasing in, providing that it actually works! 

Can I edit my game post jam?

Sure! It's your game after all, whatever you do with it post jam is completely up to you, polish it up, finish what you didn't in the jam or leave it alone. Completely up to you.

Our only suggestion would be a devlog or page note to say what has changed since the jam!
