  • Wow! What a facinating game. You have taken a theme that leads it self down a violent route and somehow made it very peaceful and calming. You're unique interpretation is a great foundation for the game, and provides a great amount of information into Maori history and how tribes/chiefs function. The artwork was simple yet very complete, the art was touching, peaceful and full of character. The GDD was very well put together, the progression stages were very interesting to read through. I struggle to find any places to provide you with constructive feedback that weren't already mentioned in the GDD. Overall the game was very good, Great job!

Yes

Summarise your game!
Taiaha is a Māori-inspired point-and-click visual novel.

You are the Taiaha, a sacred Māori weapon wielded by a great chief. Through your spiritual wisdom, you will guide the chief into choosing the path that balances the ecosystem and his prestige. The culmination of his choices will tell your legacy as a mighty weapon.

The game is meant to introduce parts of Māori culture and spirituality while engaging into the complex decision-making involved when leading a tribe during pre-colonial times.

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
The player is a sentient weapon who can influence the wielder in making choices. In Māori culture, the taiaha is considered a spiritual weapon passed down to the tribal chiefs. They can be imbued with deities and make them sacred.

We wanted to challenge the idea that weapons are simply objects of warfare and destruction. The game presents how weapons can hold stories and prestige instead of violence and bloodlust.

Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
Did you enjoy learning more about Māori culture? What concepts did you particularly find interesting?
