Welcome to PlayJam!

PlayJam is a Playdate themed game jam where you get one weekend (and a bit) to make a game for the  Playdate. Playdate is a small yellow handheld console with a popout  crank giving developers a brand new way to control their games, learn more here (https://play.date).

THEME: Something's Missing

Your job

As previously stated you will get one weekend(ish) to make a Playdate game with a theme that will be announced when the jam begins. You are free to submit as many games as you would like as long as they were made during the jam period and they will be ranked in 3 categories. Those categories are:

• FUN: How fun do people find your game?
• CREATIVITY: How far did you go with the theme ? How does your game stand out from the rest?
• USE OF LIMITATIONS: How well did you use the crank? The 1-bit art? The few buttons you are given?

Once the submission period ends there will be a few more days to vote on your favourite games from the jam.

Rules for entries

• All entries MUST be SAFE FOR WORK
• All entries MUST run either on the Playdate simulator or an actual Playdate console
• You may submit as many games as you want with teams of as many as you want
• Submissions may not promote negative views such as racism, sexism, homophobia, etc

Winners

The top 5 games will be played on stream and the first place winner will receive a role in the discord server(as well as bragging rights)

I don’t have a Playdate. Can I still participate? Yes. You can download all the needed tools to make a Playdate game without even owning one! Just go to https://play.date/dev to download the SDK or try the web based tool Pulp.

Can I use premade assets? Yes, you can. You can use asset packs, music, sounds, whatever as long as you still put a reasonable amount of effort into the game  and built most of it during the jam. Please also list any premade assets you used when submitting your game.

What can I make my game in? Anything that can make games playable on the Playdate. It can be the web-based Playdate development tool Pulp  , it can be the Playdate SDK, anything goes as long as the game is runnable on a Playdate.

Who can vote on games? Anyone with an itch.io account can vote for their favourite games however if this is being abused it will be changed to participants only.
