Letters to Leo's itch.io pageBio
Just a trans ace barista trying to get by. Technically I've had my poetry published before, but I was like 9 and it was for my primary school poetry anthology, so not really that impressive. It was a fairly good poem about mushrooms though.
You can find me on twitter @roguewolfiii or on waterfall.social with the same handle.

"Letters to Leo" by Safe (twitter). Ve says that this collection is "A series of platonic love letters written in response to a hard friendship-breakup, written to be cathartic and therapeutic and originally intended to be private. However, now that some time has passed, they've done all that I needed them to. The poetry jam is the perfect place to let them go." The whole document is text laid over a variety of scanned or manipulated paper textures, notepads, stationary, and all forms of visual delights. Part of their release to the public is in hopes that if a reader ever needs to have a friend breakup, that these letters can help them through that situation. It's important for us to see that it's not just romantic and/or sexual relationships that need to be treated seriously and with care. They really tell a story. That first person narrative that tells you a lot about the speaker, and makes you wonder about the characters described. How do you know that what image you've been given of a subject is true or accurate? You have to trust in what you're told.
It's a really mature and interesting self-reflection I wish people did more of, and I'm so glad all these unsent letters found their way into the Poetry Jam.
"I ALSO HAVE TO BE OKAY WITH THE FACT THAT, MAYBE, THE REASON WE MIGHT NEVER BE THAT CLOSE IS BECAUSE I WAS THOUGHTLESS, BECAUSE I TREATED YOU CARELESSLY, AND HURT YOU EVEN THOUGHT I DIDN'T INTEND TO."
As someone also dealing with the aftermath of a friendship breakup (that was also a romance breakup)... this hits really hard. This is so, so well written and I love it a lot. I hope you keep writing and healing!!
