Intro

Join us for the first-ever Popped Corn Bytes jam! We've made this jam to be supportive and flexible to get your game-dev goals off the ground. So join me and others from the Game Creators' Club make something fun and memorable.

  • No prior experience needed
  • Use any game engine
  • Make a game in any genre
  • Form your team through Discord (solo dev is okay!)
  • Spend about two weeks on your project over the month

Are you busy? Don't have two weeks to work on a game? No worries--flexibility is our jam. You can spread the two-weeks around the month of January however you want. Or spend less than two weeks. Or maybe you want more time? That's cool too, take the time you need for the jam. Our rolling submission gives you the chance to pick your best schedule in January.

Theme

Transitions and Transformations

January is a time of transitions and transformations. Life and death, old and new. Resolutions are a transformations of the self. Feature a transition in your game, but be as creative as you can. Transforming characters. Shifting environments. Perhaps you'll Scene and UI transitions? Dynamic music based on character actions? Need some examples to get the juices flowing?

  • Timmy transforms in to shield to prevent damage
  •  Snowy the snowflake can transform into water to move fast, but can only attack when a snowflake
  • All monsters turn red before they attack
  • A custom snow-to-blizzard visual effect is used in between scenes
  • A snowman has New Years resolutions and transforms as he accomplishes his goals
  • The player changes appearance as they level up
  • The environment changes to winter or spring if the player dies or is revived

FAQ

Who can join?

Anyone with any experience! The goal is to challenge yourself and accomplish something new. Outside of that, everyone is welcome to join :)

How do I join a team?

If you're looking for a team, simply join the Discord and say you're looking for a team in the #game-jams channel. If you haven't been able to find a team, I will do my best to find you a team or bring you into mine depending on your skillset.

Do I need to join a team?

Nope! You can go solo if you want, but we do hope we get to see your progress!

Why should I join the Discord?

Discord will be the best way to stay in contact with me and the other participants. We host weekly and ad hoc work sessions for extra networking and accountability. Don't want to join forever? We've got you. There will be a Discord option to join for the jam only. Once the jam has ended and winners are announced, I can remove you!
