What is this jam?
This is an Easter game jam for members of the Pygame Community Discord server. If you're not in the server, don't worry! You can join using this link: https://discord.gg/SSkfYmxnnr . You are free to join the server and the jam at any point up to the final submission deadline.
Theme:
The theme of this jam is High Tech, with the bonus themes:
1. Hide
2. Low gravity
3. Contrast
We strongly encourage everyone to make use of the main theme, especially if they are trying to score as highly as possible. Use of bonus themes will not increase your game's score by themselves but can be useful if you need more ideas.
Rating Criteria:
- Fun:
How fun your game is! Things like game design, balance and replay value are considered here. - Originality:
How much your game stands out from existing games. This can be both in terms of game mechanics or overall aesthetic. - Polish:
This is about all the little additions that you make to your game outside of the minimum of what is required. Bug fixes, menu flourishes, secret content, etc. - Graphics/Sound:
How good your game looks and sounds. For graphics, this is both in terms of aesthetic and raw graphical effects and features. For sound, this is largely about music but will also include things like sound effects. This is a combined category, with half the rating coming from graphics and half coming from audio.
- Theme:
How much your game follows the theme(s) of the jam. Creative spins on the theme concept are highly encouraged.
Rules:
- Submissions must be started and finished between the start of the jam and the end of the jam. Games submitted after the end of the jam will most likely not be allowed to be submitted, and games that were started before the beginning of the jam will definitely not be allowed.
- All entrants must primarily use python and pygame to create their submission. Additional libraries, pre-existing code, and premade engines are allowed, but pygame must still be used to create the core part of the game.
- Music/Art/Sfx made before the jam can be used, but will not go towards your rating in the Graphics/Sound rating category. Using assets made for the jam is highly encouraged. If you do uses assets that were not created for the jam, you must clearly state this on your game page.
- All entrants must include a link to their source code on their submission page. Anyone who does not include their source code will be contacted and asked to include it, and if they do not, then their entry will be disqualified. Executables of the game are also heavily encouraged, as they will make it easier for people to play your game, but they are not required.
- Teams are allowed and are even encouraged! Don't feel shy about entering by yourself though.
