<<<<<<< Turn a Story into a Game! >>>>>>>

Is it really that simple? Nope! But it's still pretty simple. Here are the steps!

Step 1:
Decide to be a Collaborator, a Story Donor, or BOTH.

How to decide... Do you have skills to share? Do you have a story to share? BOTH?!

Step 2:
The story can be any medium: prose, poetry, script, comic, whatever... It helps if it's short. But it MUST be yours and it has to be finished. All the stories will be available to all the jammers during the jam.

Step 3:
On the 24th of April attend the PITCH SESSION. (irl if you can, but you can join virtually too.) It's at 6pm - Maker's Massive, Cape Town.

Confirm attendance here: https://forms.gle/5aT4XP35SzquaWeZ8

Step 4:
The Story Donors can pitch their stories. The Collaborators can get excited and make groups to turn these stories into games!

Here's the repository of available stories: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1zTH__LP3sFm_1zK0o9MZNja0gAwlPKze?usp=sha...

Step 5:
JAM!
(at your own pace)

Step 6:
Submit your finished upcycled story here before the 12th July! Bask in the accomplishment of making a STORY GAME!

<<<<<<< FAQs >>>>>>>

Is this a Game Jam?
Kinda... we'll put it on Itch as a jam, but no prizes or judges except mutual engagement and experience.

What's the point?
Making more narrative games - this time without the pressure of coming up with a whole story from scratch.

Is there a theme?
Nope. Just bring a story that you have rights to, and that you think would be a cool game. Or don't and join a pitch. Or pitch, abandon your pitch and join someone else's!

What should be in my pitch?
It should be less than 5 minutes. Try to include: What it's about; How many characters there are; What kind of game could it be; Who you want to collaborate with (Artists? Devs? Musicians?); How long it is.

I've never been to Ravel, can come and can I pitch?
YES and YES Ravel is always open to everyone.

I've never made a game, can I pitch?
YES! Ravel's mission is to get MORE people into creating games

I don't want to commit to the jam, but I'm curious. Can I attend?
YES come along and see what it's all about.

How will my story be shared?
It'll be in a google drive folder accessible through a link to all jam participants.

Can different teams adapt the same story?
Yes, multiple teams can adapt the same story if they don't want to collaborate. The author doesn't have to be on a team adapting their story.

Who has the rights to the story?
The author holds all the rights to their original story and to any other adaptations or derivatives. The rights to an adaptation made for THIS JAM only cover this particular instance and only for the jam's duration. Ravel holds no rights to anything created, and any further development or distribution is up to the teams and authors to make their own explicit agreements.
