Whats is Game Jam?

KGeN and IGDC are on the lookout for India's next game developer whose creation has the potential to shine on the global stage. Through the WAVES program, selected developers will have the opportunity to showcase their games on a national platform. Additionally, participants stand a chance to secure a grant from the Government of India to further develop their game.

Why Should I Participate?

The gaming industry is booming, with expected double-digit growth in the coming years. Game Jam at WAVES is your entry point into the gaming ecosystem in India.

Who Can Participate?

The game jam is open exclusively to Indian-origin individuals.

How Do I Register?

You need a valid Itch.io ID to participate. Only one team member needs to register for the jam on Itch.io, but it's recommended that all team members have Itch.io accounts so they can be added as contributors.

Do I Need to Be on Discord?

Yes, all communication during the jam will be through our Discord channel and the IGDC social media platforms.

Team Composition Rules

• Teams can consist of 1 to 5 members.
• Team composition cannot be changed after Screening Phase 2.

Can I Submit Multiple Entries?

No, only one entry per team is allowed.

Platform Requirements

Games must be submitted for Web, Android, iOS, or Windows platforms, as these are easily accessible to the jury.

Asset and Code Usage

You can use open-source or previously created assets (art, music, code, etc.) or assets from asset stores, as long as you have the legal right to use them. You must include a readme file in your project that lists all such assets and their respective copyright requirements.

Using Generative AI

You may use AI-generated assets, but it is your responsibility to ensure you have the rights to use them. If in doubt, be cautious and create your own content.

Final Prototype Submission

Teams must build and submit a prototype in 59 days, starting from 19th December 2024 till 16th February 2025. 

Disqualification Criteria

Your game will be disqualified if:

• It lacks a playable build.
• The build contains malware, spyware, crypto miners, or other harmful software.
• The submission contains inappropriate content (e.g., pornographic, discriminatory, or hate speech).
• The submission is a duplicate or a copy of another entry.

File Size Limit

Your submission must be under 1GB. If it exceeds this limit, you can use the Butler tool or Blendo Itch Uploader to upload your files.

NOTE: In order to submit your game to Itch.io, your .zip file must be UNDER 1GB

This won't affect most projects, but please be mindful of the size of your game once compressed. If your file is more than 1GB, you may utilize the Butler tool to upload your files to Itch.io. Also, check out Blendo Itch Uploader, a GUI for uploading projects to Itch.io.
