I thought it was pretty good! It's a little short and could use some more puzzles. It reminds me a little of games like Silent Hill and certain parts of some other games I've played. I think you're on the right path with the concept and perhaps it would be worth fleshing out later ^^
Собака дуреет от этого сна
Game isn't bad btw, maybe only you could work more on puzzles and graphics. But monster designs was cool
This review contains spoilers!
Gameplay - 3/5: Serviceable
The game mainly consists of interacting with objects, solving puzzles, and avoiding monsters. It's pretty straightforward, although instead of "closet" having the wrench I would have put "shelf".
There's also a couple collision bugs where you can walk up the walls, mostly in the bathroom when things are normal, but it becomes more common the further you get into the game. Maybe double check your assets to make sure they're working properly.
Presentation - 4/5: Good!
The sound design is very good! I like the creepy atmospheric sound that plays in Paul's house, and the little sound effects like his coughing and hitting the ground.
I will say that even though the game is in English, the options and saves appear to be in Russian?
Creativity - 3/5: Serviceable
I really liked the combination sound design and the monster designs in general, the effect was really cool. I think overall though the game felt a little short and some of the rooms felt kinda empty or similar looking. Maybe more kinds of furniture, or even just smaller rooms would have helped with this?
Horror - 5/5: Great!
The horror was good! I think a lot of it is thanks to the sound design, but the monster design is also pretty creepy. It felt a little too quick actually, I think a longer game exploring the "nightmare realm" more could have been even spookier.
Story - 3/5: Serviceable
A man who's wife left him begins to suffer from nightmares. The story was simple, but had a nice ending, at least the one I got. I will say I was a little confused at the phone call at the end, where Paul is talking about a dog and his owner who was saved from a house fire? But overall I liked the hints at the backstory and the phonecalls used as flashbacks.
Overall:
A neat little game, honestly it felt a little short for the story it was telling. I really liked the sound and monster design, but felt like more could have been done with the maps and puzzles. I think the longest puzzle was towards the end, and I felt like we could have more of those to give us more information about Paul's past. It ended a little too quickly, we understand why Paul feels the way he does but it still feels like we're missing something. Does Helen blame Paul, or was there another reason why she left? Why was Nick calling Paul? Why does Paul blame himself over what happened- was he doing something that was stressing Helen out? I think it would have been interesting to explore something like that a little bit more.
