Game Jam Announcement Video

The Studio Blue "You Got It, Now Use It" Game Jam will run from September 1st (starting 12am CDT) to September 14th (ending at 11:59:59pm CDT). Judging will take place from September 15th to September 28th, live on Studio Blue's Twitch Channel. The video above goes into further details of how that will happen.

Judges' Twitch Channels:

Studio Blue - https://www.twitch.tv/studiobluegames

HawkZombie - https://www.twitch.tv/hawkzombie

Hard_Reset - https://www.twitch.tv/hard_reset

JackOfAllOps - https://www.twitch.tv/jackofallops

DamianFloyd - https://www.twitch.tv/damianfloyd

Basic Rules:

1. RPG Maker MZ only (that means no RPG Maker MV, VXAce, etc). This is to promote the new engine.

2. All games must contain the three required elements listed in the "Required Elements" Section below.

3. Solo developers or small teams of up to four people only. No large teams, please. You must specify if you are a team, how many, who is in it, and what they did.

4. The game will be judged by Studio Blue based on the first 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the number of entries; however, other judges (if there are any) may judge more of the game's content. There is no penalty for going less than 30 minutes.

5. No pre-existing projects of any kind. You may not start the game until September 1st when the "three secret elements" are made public.

6. No NSFW or content that violates either the Twitch or YouTube Terms of Services.

7. You are only allowed to use the base assets provided by the base purchase of RPG Maker MZ (no DLC or preorder bonuses), or anything created by yourself (or someone on your team). You are allowed to customize the base assets. You are also allowed to use any freely distributed plugins and any free fonts (fonts you find free online or that come free with a tool). Bottom Line: If you have to pay money for it, you cannot use it. (Here is a link to the default assets of RMMZ: Please Click Here!)

8. We are clarifying from an error in the video: You can use a plugin that was already created for free for the community (by you or someone else), but not a project that you have already started.

9. Any game that does not contain all three of the secret elements (to be release on September 1st at 12am CDT) will be unable to place in the Game Jam at all, even the Community Favorite.

10. We reserve the right to disqualify any entry at our own discretion.

*If clarification is needed, these rules may be appended!

Required Elements:

Required Elements Reveal Video

All games submitted must have all three of these within the "game content" (so not the menus or the credits):

1. A character named Stephen or Stephanie. You may pick either. The character doesn't have to be a human.

2. A crossroads location that the player visits. The player has to go there.

3. The dialogue line "Where do we go from here?". This must be used exactly as printed.

(If you have any questions about the three required elements, we do a pretty good job explaining things in the video.)

Rankings:

1. The criteria that the judges will be using are “Story & Characters”, “Playability & Innovation,” and “Fun & Appeal”. That means that your game will be judged on the strength of your writing, both for story and characters, how playable and innovative the game is, and subjectively how much fun the game Is and its appeal. Graphics and Sound, while an important part, are not a category for placing.

2. This is a ranked Game Jam, with Studio Blue offering cash prizes. First place, second place, and third place winners will receive $100, $50, and $25 USD respectively. If other judges or community members throw in additional keys or whatnot, then that information will be updated during the jam.

3. There is also the Community Favorite Prize, the game that the community will vote on (using either itch.io or a secondary voting site). This prize starts at $25 USD, the same as third place; however, during the Studio Blue streams of these games, any donation that is tagged as belonging to the “The Community Chest” is added to that pot. So, if a viewer donates $5 dollars to the Community Chest, the award goes up to $30. If someone donates $20, it’ll then go up to $50, and so forth. There is no limit to how high the Community Chest can go. Make sure you tag the donation as "Community Chest" and not that it's for Studio Blue!

4. PayPal is the default way to pay out; however, if that is not an option, other methods may be used.
