  • This game's greatest appeal is easily its presentation. The numerous effects, the sprites, the intro sequence, pretty much everything about it is leagues better than you'd expect from a developer this young. This demonstrates a clear natural talent towards developing a cohesive aesthetic, which is not an easy thing to learn. To have a natural intuition towards this skill is impressive, and I commend this game for that. (I'm aware the dev didn't make all of the assets themself, but the ability to tie everything together cohesively, as well as apply effects that further enhance the aesthetics, still points to artistic merit in my opinion.) So how was the game itself? Well, unfortunately I can only really use one word to describe it: broken. Dying breaks the game, accidentally pressing the teleport button twice breaks the game, sometimes dialogue gets stuck in a loop, and often times hits don't register to the player or the enemies. This is unfortunate, as the baseline experience could be fun. A simple sidescrolling hacknslash with different worlds can be a fun relaxing experience to engage with while listening to a podcast or watching a show. I could see myself doing that to pass the time now and then with a more polished version. With some more playtesting and bugfixing, I think this could be a decent game, but in its state its mostly unplayable. However, I want to say something important about this to the dev: don't get discouraged! To be frank, most 12 year olds could not tie an experience together with this amount of quality, period. Especially not one with this good of a presentation. The developer clearly has a natural talent towards aesthetics, and demonstrates programming capability by having made this in the first place. If you keep it up, you'll certainly be making amazing games one day, and I'll certainly be playing them when that happens. Overall, I'd rate this project a 5/10
