Second Vircon32 Jam

What is Vircon32?

Vircon32 is a 32-bit virtual console, designed to be very simple to learn and emulate but capable of running full, interesting games. You can learn more about it at its website www.vircon32.com. Or if you just want to see what the console can do, watch this video with games and demos.

Theme

The theme for this jam is: SCORING. Any kind of game is valid as long as it includes some kind of scoring system.

I prepared a simple example game that follows the jam theme. It is a minigame called Gem Maze. Its source is available here, so that you can see how to create the needed elements in the console.

Prizes

These 3 games were donated as prizes. The highest voted entries can each choose one of them, in order:

• Terraria

• Love is Dead

• NAIRI: Tower of Shirin

Keep in mind that while I (Vircon32) am also taking part in the jam, I will be excluded from prizes and classification. I will submit my entry out of the contest itself.

Rules

If you want to take part in this jam, the rules that your submission should follow are simple:

• It has to be a game playable in Vircon32 console.

• You must include the *.v32 rom file as a download in your submission.

• The game must follow the jam theme in some way.

• You may use assets from Vircon32 tutorials and sample projects, as well as public domain images and sound/music. Still, you must provide some original content as well. Don't use assets from other existing games unless it's something minor.

• It is fine to use the example as a base, but try to not submit a clone of it.

• Please avoid abusive, sexual or excessively controversial content. The organizers can disqualify games that use problematic content, at their discretion.

Voting

Games in this jam will be voted using these criteria, in order of importance:

• Gameplay and fun

• Following the theme

• Good graphics and sound

If you want to learn the game creation process for this console you should check the console website. It features multiple guides and tutorials to get you started, as well as an API documentation.

Another good place to look at are the existing games, demos and test programs. You can find all of them at the console's GitHub repository.
