  • Very interesting. I liked the shapes and the idea. I just think that you sinned a little in the presentation of your model and in the technical part. Some things look very saturated but the way the painting was done was very good. I just had the impression that the character was without eyes, which seemed a little chilling, but if that was the intention, no problem.
  • Hi Finley You have come out with a lovely character there, and as it stands it works well. I can see through the process the way you made it worked, but could use some refinements for future work, and I hope you don’t mind if I suggest a few things? Firstly you have a really nice style to your concept art, it works well, I don’t see any issues here, but I don’t study concept art, but to me it looked good! The initial low poly block out I suggest you do in zbrush. It will look much more organic doing it straight from zbrush rather than blocking out in max. I have a few videos that might help with this process… https://www.artstation.com/artwork/18avwX https://www.artstation.com/artwork/Vg43kn https://www.artstation.com/artwork/L3vkxP I think once you gain more mastery of zbrush also you will find it much faster, and producing the clothing also a lot faster! It looks like at this stage you reused the low, and baked from that. Using my method obviously you wouldn’t have a low yet, you would decimate and retopo in max, but doing it this way allows also any large bumps or anything to be correctly accounted for by the low poly. After this, in 3ds max you baked. Its ok, but I know you can produce much better bakes using Marmoset, and you already have it! I have a tutorial for this also, sadly it has dogy sound but it should explain the process in under ten minutes for you https://www.artstation.com/artwork/3d8kEJ its using marmoset 4 but 3 is very similar in this respect. Very cool about using smart materials! It’s a very handy way of going about things especially in the industry. I think you have produced quite lovely skin textures considering the base you had, it looks lovely, and jells well with the eyes. Very cool! For posing, I do exactly the same for fast posing in my portfolio. If you experience an issue with smooth groups after export from zbrush, in maya there is a option to transfer smooth info from the t pose to the posed. Is there the same in max? A wise idea also though, as well as using reference online. Get your phone, place it against a wall, and record some video while you pose yourself. This way you can be much more accurate, and try loads of angels, so you can get the pose, and weight, exact. You a handy human to use as ref any time you need! I love the stick, im assuming this was created entirely in zbrush. I think you can tell, it looks organic. The final renders are good also, your using marmoset well and fill/rim/key is producing some great results. If you alter the diameter of the light you can get a smoother fall off to the shadows also. Don’t worry too much about scale for this, in marmoset you can adjust the scene scale anyway. But for rigging purposes, you can usually scale it accurately around that point before rigging. But during the high to low poly stage/baking its not a concern. Anyway on the whole it’s a really cool model. There is just some of the process I think you could do with changing to boost the work more. Thank you, and thank you for the time and effort in producing this piece. If you like please message and add me on artstation. It would be a delight to see newer work and to possibly give you some feedback and guidance if you need or want it. Thank you

Love this!! I looks like it was taken straight out of a fantasy game! So amazing!! How this is a Rising Star entry and not a SFAS is beyond me :O Well done!!!!!!!

Thanks, I really like your wood elf especially how you posed it, moving stuff around on my model was painful.
