  • Contestant: Hannah Wooldridge / @HannahWool Assessor: Tristan McGuire / @Draconic_Cowboy Tier: Search For A Star Congrats on creating something for the competition! It is clear that this entry is unfinished, so feedback can only be quite limited. But I am so glad to see you did submit an entry. Things that went well: ✧ Lots of well thought out research and development of the concept. ✧ Great to see referencing of books and learning videos. ✧ Thorough documentation of the sculpting process. Things to consider next time: ✧ As already highlighted in your documentation, this project is unfinished most likely due to not having pre-planned how much time to allocate to each stage. So next time, just make sure to know when the cut off point is where you will be moving through each pipeline step, to ensure that things don’t get rushed or cut off at the end. ✧ The eyeballs could’ve done with being set back deeper into the skull, as they protrude a lot in the ¾ view. I hope this feedback proves useful and will help you with future projects and building your portfolio. You can find me on the social medias in the link below. Feel free to reach out in the future. All the best! https://draconic-cowboy.carrd.co/ - Tristan, Character Artist at Airship Interactive.
  • Assessor Name: Caleb O’Brien – Character Artist @ Firesprite A really promising project, this is shaping up to be something great! Your pre-production work is incredible here, I love how much research and exploration you’ve put in to reach an awesome final concept. It’s brilliant to be ambitious but remember It’s okay if you don’t complete everything you set out to, as long as you have a quality finished character by the end where you’ve demonstrated the whole pipeline. So don’t be afraid to cut back slightly on your original idea, to the benefit of reaching a final result you’re happy with. One piece of advice for future is that when going from your 2D concept into ZBrush, I think it’s beneficial to create a very rough block out of the character, capturing the major forms and silhouette seen in the concept. That way you can get a quick idea of how the design works in 3D, allowing you to iterate on the design, if necessary, rather than taking certain elements too far and feeling you have to stick with it down the line if it’s not working as well in tandem with the rest. I love how you did a quick paint over to note down the different material definition you plan to do on your sculpt, it’s great to see your working out as it lets us in on your process and way of thinking. As you mentioned in your documentation, some marvellous designer examples would be great to see even if it’s for a small section just to get some nice cloth base to work on top of in ZBrush. Some nice cloth elements would contrast nicely with the hard surface feel you’ve achieved already. Overall, the character is looking great so far so keep up the awesome work! I really looking forward to seeing the finished character. I’ve not had as much time as I’d have liked to rate projects, so please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or would like some further feedback on anything in particular!
