  • This is a successful project and you should be proud of what you've managed to achieve here! You have developed a strong narrative which is shown in the characters' design, and explored many concepts with justifications for design ideas. This is all supported with good reference photos which show clear design influence. Some feedback: ∘ You could experiment with a wider variation of silhouettes for the body shape before exploring the smaller details such as accessories. it's really nice to see the exploration of the face and expressions as this is often looked over ∘ good attention to value when considering the final composition. It would be great to see colour tests at this stage as well. You did a great job with the final concept and biography, he is a very believable and intriguing character ∘ very strong ability to work in ZBrush utilising advanced techniques such as mouth cavity, Polygroups and spotlight with great results ∘ It's really great to see Marvelous Designer in your workflow, and you've achieved some good results for your first time using it. I would highly recommend watching this video by Laura Gallagher for a better understanding of cloth. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imp3j7l6V1U You can also use the topstitch tool in Marvelous Designer to create some easy and accurate stitches along your seams ∘ When retopologising clothing from Marvelous Designer this method will give you some nice results https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFAfqW0Zlqk ∘ Nice result using hair cards. The tutorial you used looks great, I'll also give you the link to the workflow I use from TriGon in case you want to look at more methods https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5-0VM2eS_o&list=PLhphbo2gS6Vy5hAjadYLgXgTDVWlw2y4U ∘ It would be good to see more material reference in the texturing stage Overall this was a very successful project and you showed that you're able to create a character using a suitable games industry workflow. You were able to reflect well on the project and identify areas for improvement. Keep up the hard work and you will continue to see great results! • Contestant: Ben Clancy / @BenArt Assessor: Tristan McGuire / @draconic_cowboy Tier: SFAS Congrats on completing your project! Things that went well: ✧ Great research and development of the concept. ✧ Facial topology, use of polygroups, use of layers. ✧Thorough use of reference images. ✧ Solid Zbrush skills. ✧ Nice work on the hair cards. ✧ Great work on the UVs. ✧ Nice shader and engine work. Things to consider next time: ✧ The marvelous work is great, but some of the manually sculpted wrinkles actually detract a bit from the forms made in the simulation. Aim for crisper changes in plane on the cloth, rather than the ‘swirly’ looking sculpted wrinkles. ✧ For topology, aim for a grid of evenly sized quads - try to avoid long and thin rectangles. ✧ I like the narrative behind the renders, but it would be super useful to have some that also just show the character itself nice and clearly. Consider using a plain colour background or adding considerable depth of field to the camera to take the background out of focus. I hope this feedback proves useful and will help you with future projects and building your portfolio. You can find me on the social medias in the link below. Feel free to reach out in the future.
