  • Contestant: Manuel Masala / @manuelyy Assessor: Tristan McGuire / @draconic_cowboy Tier: RS Congrats on completing your project! Things that went well: ✧ It’s cool to see that you created your own concept. ✧ Writing in the documentation is good. Things to consider next time: ✧ For future documentation, we need to see more high resolution renders of your model, such as close ups of the high poly, and nice images of the topology, so that we can actually see the wireframe. ✧ When doing retopology, aim for the quads to be nice and evenly spaced. Avoid areas where the loops are close together for no reason, or where the loops are jagged. ✧ To take the UVs to the next level, look into straightening the edges of the islands so you optimise the use of the space more. ✧ You made a good start with the hair, but there’s still lots of room to research industry standard techniques. So keep on researching things like hair cards. ✧ Put some more love into the final renders. Look on ArtStation at how professionals present their work, for ideas. As you are in the Rising Star tier, I hope this feedback can be used to inform how you approach future university projects and I would love to see you take part in the competition again next year! You can find me on the social medias in the link below. Feel free to reach out in the future. All the best! https://draconic-cowboy.carrd.co/ - Tristan, Deputy Senior Character Artist at Airship Interactive.
  • Great job finishing this character for the challenge! You managed to create a believable character using some good industry workflows. I really like her design and backstory. Some feedback: ∘ it would be good to see some more development of the concept, for example further exploration of silhouettes and colour before finalising a design ∘ work on anatomy and proportions more in zbrush, you can do this by adding anatomy reference images in the background of your document by going to the draw tab > front-back / left-right and turning on transparency if needed ∘ great job adding hair to your character! For it to be game-ready you will want to learn how to make hair cards. ∘ it doesn't look like the high poly details have been baked down in substance painter Overall you've managed to achieve a lot in the project and you should be proud! keep working hard at it :) Feel free to reach out with any questions ~ Sasha Gallie, Character Artist at Double Eleven https://www.artstation.com/sashagallie
