  • Assessor: Anthony O Donnell – Art Director @ d3t Title: Fog Island Research and Development No document was submitted so it was not possible to assess this. Creative Art The overall image is nice. The supporting props due to the lighting setup appear dark and unclear. Having some lights on or near the boat and cabin to call them out without unbalancing the images focal point could work. The bark grain direction is going the wrong way for a log cabin. The normal intensity is soft and too strong to describe the desired look. Even if a stylised look is wanted always refer to reference to get the main details down. Technical Art As no UE4 files were submitted it was not possible to properly asses the technical art. From the sketchfab files the lighthouse wireframe could benefit from a more consistent poly distribution. The main forms of the lighthouse itself are still somewhat polygonal when compared to the higher poly and detailed railing near the top. Documentation The video supplied goes into some detail but not enough information to properly assess the work. Final Presentation I like the chosen colour palette and soft lighting of the scene. It gives it a slightly magical / ethereal feeling. The volumetric lighting and atmosphere suits the piece.
  • The eye catching colour scheme helps to pull in the focus to the key asset work on the island with solid lighting ideas. Additional work on the rocks to give a slightly less ambiguous form as well as some extra trim and weathering details on the lighthouse detailing would help build some character which is needed to maintain interest. Some low level accent lighting using soft fills to pick out the boat a little more would help to bring out the model work. On the technical side there are a few things to keep an eye out for such as UV seams (lighthouse) as well as missing glows for light sources and silhouette work on the distant assets.

Nice idea with a great use of colour. The scene would be really lifted with some sea mist.
