  • Submission Title: House of Visions Submission Tier: Search for a star Assessor: Dominic Shaw Environment Artist @ Firesprite The documentation that you have made is really good and the you have planned the project really well and researched everything that you needed. It was good to see asset lists and time plans has these are important when making environment art. I can tell from the documentation you provided that you have a good understanding of game art pipelines in theory has you are considering trim sheets and modular kits. However, I think when it comes to the practical side there is still a lot of work and improvement needed. The first thing that I would say is that whilst you are a student, I would avoid using mega scans completely, as this is the time that you need to prove to potential employers that you can do the job without using assets that you didn’t make. I also think that by avoiding this stuff you will be improving your own skills too. The lighthouse that you made is a good example that you are following all the steps of taking it into Zbrush and baking down which is great. In the future for assets this big in the environment, you should be using tile-able textures and trim sheets to keep the resolution high. You had the right intention with the modular kit on the buildings but you need to make sure that the corners line up perfectly and continue on to the next brick. You will also need to make sure that the brick sizes line up perfectly from piece to piece. Another example of this is the stone wall piece, you have put two side by side rather than making a corner piece for the kit. My advice moving forward is to really focus on improving your core skills of modelling, baking and texturing and do a few single assets to really high quality before moving onto a full environment. You have stated in your documentation how you took composition and these techniques in mind so I think that you understand the pipeline and now it’s just about practicing the practical side.
