- I know it can be tough working out where to start with a project like this, the best thing to do is to try and make a vertical slice of what your final game would be (not the actual game itself). Make sure to define the core loop for the game (menu -> gameplay -> win condition) and give the player clear objectives. Plan out what features you're going to add, and how long they'll take. This way during development you can see whether you're ahead of/behind schedule and whether you need to cut features. The key thing is to be honest with yourself about how much time you have to spend on the project. If you find yourself short on time during development, don't be afraid to change the scope of the game and cut features.
