This is the game jam in celebration of 100,000 subscribers on the shawcat YouTube channel. It’s also the first time I’m hosting a jam!
This is a 48 hour jam with it’s structure inspired by the GMTK game jams. There are no prizes, it’s simply for fun! After the voting period, my top picks will be posted on my YouTube. I’m so excited to see what everyone creates!!!
The theme is: MISMATCHED! You can watch the theme reveal video for examples below, and you're free to interpret the theme however you like! Remember to be creative, and create something small enough to be completed in 2 days. Good luck!
Participation is open to any and all!
- Anyone can enter from anywhere!
- Using any game engine is allowed (Unreal, Unity, Godot, GameMaker, etc.)
- Teams cannot be larger than 4 people.
- There's no penalty to not submitting a game, so make sure you join the jam!
- Join the discord to discuss the jam and / or find teams to collaborate with.
Voting
- The games will be voted on 4 different categories: fun, art, gameplay, and overall.
- Voting on fun is based on how enjoyable the game is to play, and how well it was designed.
- Voting on art is how well you think the artist performed in their medium of art form. Hypothetically, please don't vote a low score because the artist used "pixel art", vote on how well that pixel art was performed.
- Gameplay is everything involving game flow, controls, readability, usability, etc. Not to get mixed up with the "fun" category.
- And finally, vote on how good the game is overall. This will be the main category that will affect the ranking of the games.
The submissions will be rated publicly on 4 separate categories: gameplay, art, fun, and overall. The voting will start after the jam's end date of May 19th, 10am PST, and end May 26th, 10am PST. The current rankings will be invisible until that date.
Read about voting in the Participation section.
After the public rating, shawcat will have a video with his personal top picks.
- AI Art is prohibited from being used in your game or page.
- No NSFW themes or imagery are allowed.
- Free assets are okay to use! Make sure to check their licenses before usage. Links to free asset pages will be listed below.
- You cannot submit a game that was made or started before May 17th at 10am PST.
- You will not be able to submit after the 48-hour deadline at May 19th, 10am PST. A deadline extension might happen, but most likely not.
- For shawcat to judge the game, it will need to either be a web or exe build. (Remember - a web build will generally get more public plays and ratings than a downloadable one).
- Most importantly: have fun!
Here are some websites with good free assets, if you need them. Always check their licenses first!
Have fun jamming!!!
