We did it again, we accidentally made a Nintendo 64 lookalike game! That's right folks, it's the second N64 jam, by popular demand!
It's low poly, it's 3-point texture filtered (well maybe) the lighting is terrible (in a good way), and it reminds me of the winter I first got a Nintendo 64. Nintendo 64 style graphics are a distinct art style of the late 90s known for blocky low poly models, and really low resolution textures. The more blocky the art, the better! If that sounds like good ole fashion fun to you, join us for another trip down low poly lane in a blast from the past game jam, the sequel!
Additional Constraint: Incompatible Genres
Some N64 Resource
Godot
Godot 3-point texture filter Shader
Project source code geared to N64 graphic
CRT TV Shaders
Unity
Unity Retro3D shader
Unreal Engine
None :( I searched around a bit, and it seems like Unreal Engine is too cool for old school graphics.
(unless you want to pay for them. I found some CRT shaders for sale on the marketplace if you're willing to shell out a few bucks)

How to Make N64 Style Graphics
Rules
- The JAM will start March 10th 12:00 AM EST and end April 21st 12:00 AM EST (6 weeks long)
- That's right, you have a month and a half to finish you're game so everybody has time to get the creative juices flowing. No excuses that it's too short, make some games with me ;)
- There is a week long voting period last a week, starts on April 21st 12:00 AM EST, and ends on April 28th 12:00 AM EST
- Games should be made in the style of old N64 games. That means low poly count, and low resolution textures, and any other magic you can manage that gives us that old late 90s feel. (See some of the resource links above for ideas).
- Does your game have to run on an N64? That would be impressive, but no, run it in a browser, an exe for windows, linux, and mac. Those are all fine. Your goal should just be to imitate the art style. The important part is that people can easily play your game. Maybe we will do a true emulator jam some day, but that is not today.
- Can i enter an emulator N64 game to the jam? Sure, just don't break your brain doing it.
- Use any game engine you would like to use, some options if this is your first game jam
- Unreal Engine (3D and 2D) (I don't recommend using Unreal Engine 5 as a beginner as it was just released in June)
- Unity (3D, and 2D)
- Godot (3D, and 2D) (Use Godot 3.5 as a beginner, Godot 4 is in beta)
- pygame (library, primarily 2D)
- GameMaker (Primariy 2D)
- All art work, sounds, and assets should have an attribution of some kind, and be uploaded with your game. Any use of copyrighted work will result in an immediate ejection into space where you will be poked with a stick for eternity. (Well, maybe, probably not). But, seriously, use what you are allowed to use. I reserve the right to remove your game from the jam otherwise.
Judging Criteria
- Theme
- Unexpected mechanics
- Visuals
- Sound
- Uniqueness
- Cohesiveness
- Anybody can vote on entries in the jam, please don't abuse it. You're not winning a million dollars here, mostly bragging rights.
- And as always, don't be a jerk. I don't want to have to kick anybody out.
- Do I have to follow the theme? If you don't the N64 gods will probably curse you and any future born children with a terrible art curse forever. And if you're game is really that against the spirit of the jam, I may just remove it.
- Games should be made within the jam period. You want to work on some art ahead of time, or get character movement working, that's fine. But if you make a game ahead of time, you risk having to pivot to fit the jam constraint when it's announced. Will I remove games made outside the jam period? Probably not, but it's just not that fun if you're whole game was made ahead of time.
There is a #find-a-team channel on my discord. When the jam period roles around. It's probably the easiest place to find people to work with for the jam.
As usual, feel free to join the discord server. StoreBoughtRocketGames. I will make announcements in both places. But, we do have a lot of fun in the discord.
Mortician of Faith will stream any games entered into the game jam on his twitch channel.
