Welcome to this jam for SRPG Games. This is a new volume of my previous SRPG Studio Jam.
For those that are find this for the first time, let's get the introduction out of the way: SRPG Studio is a game development software tailored to make Strategic role playing games inspired on 16-bit classics, I have no relation to the developers of the software or represent them in any way, I'm just some random dude that really likes messing around with the software and participate in jams.
Prepare for trouble and make it double!! Because this time we have 2 tied Themes, pick one, both or neither... but make sure you start your dev engines!
and/or
The All-for-One Jam is an event where you create a new Single map SRPG Game in 1 month based on a theme.
The theme is revealed at the start of the event.
The Jam is an event for everyone. Teams, individuals, anyone that wants to come out and make something.
The game has to be created using SRPG Studio, but you can use any tool to help you in the development, and the game doesn't need to be a pure SRPG game, as long as is made on the engine.
You’re free to start with any previously developed code, base project, characters, etc. but the map and narrative of your game has to be made during the Jam.
Furthermore, you’re free to use 3rd party Artwork/Music/Audio assets, or assets you previously created.
It is strongly recommended that you only use assets that you have the legal right to use (Public Domain, things you licensed/created, etc.). If you don’t have the right to use something, it is your responsibility, and most certainly Itch is going to put down your submission at some point for copyright infringement.
You have 1 month to submit your game to the jam, the submission list is hidden until this submission period ends, but people can still access your submission from its own page.
During the submission period you can make any change to your submission, be it adding features, fixing bugs or replacing assets.
After the submission period ends, the judging period begins, during this time you can still update your game page and upload any update version if you so desire, as long as the original version submitted to the Jam still exists and is properly labeled for judging, if this doesn't happen and you overwrite your jam submission with a new version you will be disqualified. Also, be sure to set your game to be free.
The judging periods last until February inclusive, or when all entries are rated by the judges, whatever happens first.
The jam entries will be rated by 5 judges and the host. Games are given 1-5 star ratings in each category.
The categories include:
Innovation – The unexpected. Things in a unique combination, or something so different it’s notable.
Fun – How much you enjoyed playing a game. Did you look up at the clock, and found it was 5 hours later?
Theme – How well an entry suits the theme. Do they perhaps do something creative or unexpected with the theme?
Humor – How amusing a game is. Humorous dialog, funny sounds, or is it so bad it’s good?
Mood – Storytelling, emotion, and the vibe you get while playing.
Graphics – How good the game looks, or how effective the visual style is. Nice artwork, excellent generated or geometric graphics, charming programmer art, etc.
Audio – How good the game sounds, or how effective the sound design is. A catchy soundtrack, suitable sound effects given the look, voice overs, etc.
Overall – The overall opinion of the game, in every aspect important to the judge. This is the primary ranking category, so the winner of the jam is determined by this.
*Why I don't we the overall ranking of all the other categories? Because people value different stuff in their games and maybe the best game can't be judge as great in all the categories at the same time. Also, I want people to make something enjoyable for them and the other participants instead of trying to fit into all the categories they can at once.
There are no physical or cash prizes for the competition. Your prize is what you make of this Jam, maybe a cool prototype, maybe feedback for your crazy ideas, or maybe to get to play other fun projects.
Not really, is only a small push in some direction for you to make something and a voting category. In any case, if you use it and in which way is up to you.
That being said, It is fine to prefer games that do use the Theme, but don’t be a rude about it on the comments.
