Welcome to the Storyteller Jam, where you get a week to make a narrative focused game — with a twist!

Whether it be 3D, 2D, Platformer, Interactive Fiction or Kinetic Novel, so long as it tells a story it's a welcome submission. You could even make a slideshow if it meets the criteria! Without further ado, let's get into the theme!

Theme:

Semi-Silent — You may have dialogue or narration, but not both. This includes in-game descriptive text and UI. In relation to this theme, narration refers to any text that is not dialogue.

Examples:

  1. You choose to use Dialogue. Your characters may speak, but words in your UI must read like dialogue. Inventory may become "My stuff!"
  2. You choose to use Narration. Your characters can't speak, but you may describe their actions and emotions.

Voice acting and audio are allowed, but must follow your chosen limitation as well!

Rules:

  • Projects must be started and completed within the time-frame of the Jam.
  • Submissions must follow the Theme for the Jam.
  • Free or Paid Asset Packs, Plugins, and Code are allowed, but significant third-party contributions should be noted in your description.

  • You should have the legal rights to whatever content you use in this Jam.
  • By submitting a game, you give permission for footage or screenshots to be used in promotion or discussion of this Jam.

FAQ:

Q: What if I can't program, or do art?

A: I encourage you to look into Twine or Ink, both of which are great options for interactive fiction!

Q: Do I work alone, or can I have a team?

A: This Jam encourages both individuals and teams to take part, so whether you're one person making something or a whole studio's worth, you're welcome to participate!
