🔥Welcome to the STRUGGLE AND SURVIVE Horror Jam!🔥

SSJam is a horror themed fortnight long jam made to prepare horror fans for the spookiest time of the year. BUT- This isn't just any horror themed jam. You'll be tasked with creating a horror game in the 'Survival Horror' genre!

❓- Now what's a 'Survival Horror'?

Survival horror is a subgenre of horror games. Although combat can be part of the gameplay, the player is made to feel less in control than in typical action games through limited ammunition or weapons, health, speed, and vision, or through various obstructions of the player's interaction with the game mechanics. The player is also challenged to find items that unlock the path to new areas and solve puzzles to proceed in the game.

The Jam's date is currently planned for Sept. 15th - Sept. 29th, 9PM EST - 3PM EST.

📜- You must obey these rules, or else..

1 | Do not start developing your game prior to the start of the jam. It is however okay to plan it out, beforehand.

2 | You may use Third-Party Assets. Though, it's recommended you credit your sources.

3 | Submitting more than one game is acceptable, though HIGHLY not recommended. You should focus your jam time on one game.

4 | Games can be worked on solo or with up to 4 person sized teams. Minor roles such as additional Voice Actors are exempt from this rule.

5 | Development in any engine is fine! Recommendations: Unity, Gamemaker, Godot

6 | Try and keep games Windows/Browser compatible and if needed, zip the file. Browser compatible will allow for the most engagement, as it is the easiest for people to interact with.

7 | Some NSFW content is allowed. Games can contain profanity and gore, though try to avoid any nudity. If you feel it is needed, or just feel your game is intense, make sure to throw in a beginning disclaimer.

8 | Try to throw in disclaimers for flashing lights and other possible risks. This isn't required, but highly recommended and encouraged.

9 | Keep your game survival horror themed! (Of course.)

10 | Have fun, try not to get too scared!

🔨- The challenge of creating a 'Survival Horror' in the span of two weeks.

"These games look crazy good! How am I expected to make something like THOSE in just two weeks?"

Don't stress, if you're familiar with jams, you'll probably understand that getting a lot done in such a short amount of time can be very difficult! These games are simply examples into the 'Survival Horror' genre (Along with being very good games!) and should simply be taken as inspiration to create something smaller. Use your limited time to your advantage!

The rules of following the "genre" of Survival Horror is also not very strict. Don't worry about whether your game absolutely fits with the examples. You can get a little loose with the idea of the genre and try something unique, no pressure.

Remember, the point of the jam is to have fun and make a stressful game, not be stressed!

🎃- Any type of horror is welcomed. Whether it's horror for kids or super scary!

If you wanna swerve more towards silly or childish horror, feel free! 'Scare Factor' is not a criteria that needs to be met. On top of that, mo matter what style you have, whether it's cartoony or realistic, it's all welcome here!
