Welcome to the summer fediverse jam! This is a nine day game jam over the course of two weekends + a set of weekdays where you need to make a game according to a theme!
The Fediverse is a collection of websites that all communicate with each other on one connected protocol. For example people in one message board can see and interact with posts from another message board without leaving their home website.
This allows you to easily switch what website your account is on while still being able to see the same content (Which prevents one group of people from having a monopoly on the content and traffic). Different kinds of websites can interact with each other as well. For example people in a microblogging platform can see and reply to posts in a forum and vice versa.
In the jam two primary fediverse websites will be used to communicate: Lemmy and Mastodon (although you can also use something like pleroma or kbin that interacts with them). Forum style communication similar to reddit will be happening at https://programming.dev/c/gamedev, and microblogging will be happening in https://mastodon.gamedev.place using the hashtag #FediverseJam
The Jam Theme is Parallel Worlds!
The theme of the jam was decided by a vote between 8 options on strawpoll https://strawpoll.com/polls/eNg69eDbWnA
After the jam ends there will be a one week voting period where you can play and vote on games made by others! Games will be rated on fun, audio, graphics, theme, and creativity.
I will be playing games live over at https://www.twitch.tv/ategondev during the rating period to give developers live feedback and the top rated games will be showcased in a youtube video once the voting period ends. Feel free to also run your own streams if you want!
The majority of the game must be made within the jam period. Things not made specifically for the jam and packages are allowed (ex if you have a ui system you use for all your projects)
You can work alone or in a team. Theres no limit on the size of teams but its recommended to not go past four or five
Only one person on your team needs to submit the game and then the rest can be added as contributors in order to vote by going to your games itch page, pressing edit, pressing more, pressing admins, and then following the instructions on that page
Games must be able to be played in either windows or browser so it can be rated properly by other jammers and cant require any additional software to be downloaded
Games must be pg 13 and cant include things such as nudity
It is highly recommended to have your source code open sourced for others to view so that other people in the community can look at and learn from your project
If you use external assets in your game credit them in your game page
You cannot submit new versions of your game after the jam ended so that you are rated for what you did during the jam. There will be a one hour grace period after the jam ends for late submissions and if anything goes wrong or you run into a game breaking bug you can contact me to get a new build up
If you use AI generated content credit that you did so on your game page as if it was an external asset
Board games are allowed as long as jammers are able to easily set up the game
Anything you make during the jam is your property, I do not claim any rights or ownership of your game . Any game submitted may show up in a video or be posted to social media
No submissions match your filter
