🎃 Swap Jam Special Halloween Edition - The Creepy Couch Co-Op 🎃
This is a special edition of Swap Jam - the jam in which every participant submits 3 optional themes to be handed off to someone else. The usual time limit of 3 days is bumped up to 6 so you can cook harder and the only requirement is that the game features local co-op (and is SPoOoOoKY~)!
Once the submission period starts, we will send you your secondary themes that were created by other participants! These will be optional but we'd recommend you try to include at least one. (Themes will be sent via email so please fill in the form BEFORE the jam starts!!)
RULES 🪦
You must follow Itch.io TOS and Twitch TOS / Community Guidelines
Maximum of 4 people per team
Don't start your game before the jam
Your game must be browser playable
Your game must include couch co-op (be able to be played by 2+ players simultaneously on the same device)
Secondary themes are optional and won't effect rating (just makes the jam more fun!)
No sexually explicit content (including nudity)
No discriminatory content (against race, gender, etc.)
Slight blood and gore, adult topics, and explicit language are allowed (just make sure to mention this at the top of your game page/the start of your game)
No AI generated content
You can use asset packs, pre made sounds, etc. as long as you have the correct rights and credit the creators appropriately
You can submit multiple games, work with multiple teams, and submit your game to multiple jams, as long as you follow all of the other rules

Each member of the winning team will get mailed an assortment of spooky cat-themed stickers drawn by Ghostie!
TIPS & TRICKS 🪄
Come in with a plan but be ready to downsize. It's great to be ambitious but a small game with a solid foundation is better than one with 20 features that are all super buggy. Don't think about what you can make in 6 days, think about what you can make and test in 6 days!
Build, upload, and test often!!! Making the first web build 10 mins before the jam deadline and then realising none of it works in browser is a stressful experience. 😩
Test on multiple different browsers. Sucks to realise that your games works fine on your main browser but not on any others.
Get your friends to try your game out as you work on it! They'll for sure give you feedback and ideas that you never would have thought about yourself. Something you assumed would be easy to do or understand might be a struggle for someone who hasn't actually worked on the game!
Don't wait until the end to implement sound and visuals, do it as you go along. If you leave it to the end it usually takes longer than you'd think and half of the assets won't make it in. (Us artists and composers are begging you... 🥲)
Uploads will be locked during the voting period so make sure everything is up and ready before the deadline.
When uploading your game, add a cover image, tagline, and varied screenshots. This will help draw people's attention to your game and make them more likely to check it out.
Spend some time fleshing out your game page: change the colours, write a description, just add a little life to it! An upload page with some effort put into it shows people that you care about what you've made. (PRO TIP: You can edit the page after submissions close so it doesn't even necessarily have to eat into development time!)
Play and comment on other people's entries. Other participants also spent a ton of time on their projects so go show them some love!
