This is the Tangled Blessings Game Jam! Grab your potion ingredients, pack up your scrolls, and reserve your table in the library, it's time to develop the school!
This is your chance to write a Tangled Blessings expansion, build out a random table, or explore Brackroot Academy in your own way. Anything goes as long as it's inspired or related to Tangled Blessings in some way. See the rules section for more details.
What is Tangled Blessings?
Tangled Blessings is a solo journaling or two-player tabletop RPG inspired by dark academia media, ghost stories, and graduate school. Featuring a wizarding college, wandering specters, assigned houses, curses, devils’ bargains and more supernatural flavor, Tangled Blessings blends horror and the fantastical to help players craft a story that spans their time at the academy — culminating in one final showdown against their rival. The game typically uses tarot cards to function, but you're welcome to experiment with additional tools or add a twist to the existing mechanics.
What is a game jam?
A "game jam" is a loose term that defines this online coworking space. Typically game jams are quite short (like one day to a week long), but with the holidays and knowing how long it takes me to create, I wanted everyone to have enough time to participate if they want to. This space has forums and a way to see what others are working on.
How can I declare compatibility with Tangled Blessings?
In the credits of your project, please state that it is an independent project not affiliated with Cassi Mothwin, creator of Tangled Blessings, or Sam Leigh, creator of Anamnesis (the system on which Tangled Blessings is based). Please consider linking to both Tangled Blessings and Anamnesis on your project page. You may also use the icons located here in your project or on your project page, but doing so is not required!
During the crowdfunding campaign for Tangled Blessings, I worked with Delve Candles to create a custom scent for the game! I'm giving 2 of the last 4 candles away to participants in this jam! Shipping costs are included, but if you're outside the U.S., you'll be responsible for customs/duties. Apologies!
The first candle will go to a randomly selected entry. I'll choose who gets the second candle by picking the project that speaks to me the most. There's no real criteria for the second candle, so just do your best!
Winners will be selected and notified the first week of March 2024!
There are lots of ways you can add on to the universe within Tangled Blessings. Here are a few ideas, but don't let these limit your imagination!
- New roll tables
- Fiction inspired by the game
- Themed prompts around one class
- Mini games that can help in the final exam
- NPCs that wander the halls
- Music inspired by the game
- Study group mechanics
- New curses or studying procedures
- Online tools to enhance a playthrough
- New campus locations
If you're still stuck, keep in mind that Tangled Blessings is a magical school horror RPG. From ghosts to cults and from blood rituals to graveyards, there's a lot of space to work in.

- Only submit games if they are playable in their current form. First drafts/Ashcan editions are fine if they are playable. You may edit, fix, or adjust them at a later time.
- NSFW is allowed but the game MUST indicate it is for a mature audience.
- Homophobes, Nazis, transphobes, gender critical, fascists, racists, or other bigots are explicitly forbidden from entering.
- AI-generated content is not allowed and will be removed.
- Your project should be related to Tangled Blessings in some way, but the relationship requirement is pretty lax.
A project may be removed from the jam if it violates any of the rules or doesn't fit the topic or requirements.
