  • Motherland is a very unique, intense piece of Interactive Fiction where you play as a spy attempting to infiltrate an enemy military base. For gameplay, it is implemented well into the game and can be understood alright. It requires thinking and tests your memory in a way that is very well done. For originality, Motherland is very unique and I have almost never seen anything like it before. How it tests your memory and how it puts you under pressure makes it a very interesting experience. For fun, it is quite enjoyable to uncover what it has to offer in your first playthrough; it is almost certain that you will fail your first time, so it is exciting to come back and see what else you could have done and how your choices impacted the game. This game attempts to use an optional theme set for the game jam ‘Being Watched’, but it isn’t clear and is not used well. For timeframe, it was made during the game jam completely. The ASCII Art used is excellent and I assume it is the work of the developer. It represents the situation you are in very well. Overall, Motherland is a tense, unique game that makes you play through it a good amount of times, with how it hooks you in with its short, yet interesting plot.”
