If you're the type of person who needs a theme to get your creative juices flowing, here's a couple optional ones to get you going! Just keep in mind that these are entirely optional!
You Only Get One
Or
Lost and Found
Most game jams have themes you're required to follow that are announced the day the jam goes live. This jam is a bit different.
You can make ANY game you want, even continue working on an existing game, or remake a previous jam game. Whatever you like.
The caveat? Your goal is to finish and publish a game FOR SALE and try to earn at least $1 within 3 weeks (20 days, to be precise). You can publish your game on Itch, Steam, Humble, GOG, your own website, or sell it to your mom at your next family dinner.
Just sell your game!
Most of us have started and quit dozens, if not hundreds, of game projects. You've probably finished a handful of jam games and have a good grasp on your game engine and how to make a subjectively fun game. But many of us struggle with the same hurdle of actually putting our game out there and asking people to actually pay money for it. It's scary.
This jam is entirely designed to get you over that hurdle by taking the idea of a commercial game down off its pedestal and realizing that you CAN publish your games and it's not as hard as you might think. Once you've made $1 from a game, it'll be much easier to make $100 from the next one.
The number one rule is to have fun! What's the point if it's not fun? Do not make a game that includes hate speech or NSFW content. It will be removed. If you use any pre-made assets, code libraries, sprites, 3D models, purchased items, or otherwise you must give credit to the creator!
Is there a team size limit? Nope!
How long is the jam? This jam will be 20 days from September 10th 10am PST to September 30th 11:59pm PST.
What game engines can I use? The options are endless. Anything you want! There are some resources for engines at the bottom of this page, but you are not limited to these options.
Can I enter if I've never made a game? YES! We want you to enter! All skill levels are welcome.
Where can I find team members? Join the Community Tab on this jam or check out our discord where we have plenty of people ready to team up.
Can I upload a new build of my game after submissions are closed? Of course. With no judging going on, fixing bugs and polishing your games are encouraged. But the goal is to have a project up for sale by the deadline!
Do I need to upload to Itch if I'm planning on selling on (Insert other platform here) You should definitely be putting your game up on Itch as well so other jammers can see and potentially buy your game. Be sure you're following your platform's TOS though! (Steam doesn't like when you sell the same game in other places for a different price)
