Thank you to Earthling Eon Esper, One-Card, and Feather for inspiring this idea (and encouraging it)!
This is the RPG Developer BAKIN Tutorial Jam! Yes, it's very different than a game jam -- instead of games, or demos, or WIPs, we are making and submitting TUTORIALS on how to do anything you can imagine in BAKIN!
This event will run during the times specified above - you can join now, and submit a tutorial during the submission period which will run for a number of days. After that, the judgement period will begin and the judges will rate each tutorial submitted based on the judgement criteria!
While this is a jam about BAKIN, games will not be accepted -- this is a jam for tutorials only!
A tutorial is a set of instructions often accompanied by image that helps a new user of a tool understand how to perform a particular task. In this event, the tool is RPG Developer BAKIN and the instructions can be recorded through screencapture and video, screenshots, or text. The subject matter can be anything the participant wishes to teach -- here are some examples of what would be great to see for the jam; things that YOU can submit!
Note that some examples are more complex than others -- but all levels of complexity are welcome, from "for beginners" to "advanced"!
Note also that these are just examples to get you thinking about what you could make a tutorial about -- while all of the below are welcome, you can literally make a tutorial about anything you know how to do :]
-how to get started with making a quick "Hello World" game project
-a deep dive into how to import sprites and other 2D assets
-how to create a simple locked door event
-Making a password system
-Creating a mini-game
-How to make a relationship system for a dating sim
-A tour of the Layout tool and how to make your first layout
-Making a first person dungeon crawler
-How to move multiple NPCs at the same time on a map
-How to double-jump, swim, fly or climb
-How to make a cutscene
-Importing 3D assets
-Making a character creation system
-How to troubleshoot common issues
-How to end a game and roll credits
-How to use cross-save functionality and examples of when to use it
-How to create a great map and map-making tips
-Creating a fishing system
-How to make a farming system
-How to make a delicious low-carb broccoli and cheese soup...in BAKIN
1 - Choose anything you know how to do. Import, event, layout, anything that has to do with the engine. It can also be related to a process of how to make an asset to import into the engine, but it needs to be useful to a user of BAKIN.
For example, a tutorial of how to make a sprite or model in an application outside of BAKIN would not be a BAKIN tutorial, but a tutorial of how to get a sprite or model ready to import into BAKIN, and then going over the steps of how to do that would definitely be a great BAKIN tutorial.
2 - Choose how you'd like to present the tutorial.
Tutorials in the form of a YouTube Video are highly encouraged! However text, slideshow, or absolutely any format you can share directly is fine.
In addition, "gamified tutorials" are allowed - while arguably the most ambitious of any type, a tutorial made in the engine that goes above and beyond how to explain a concept is allowed. Videos of tutorials created in this way are also accepted!
3 - Create your media and submit. If a video tutorial, upload it to YouTube and submit the link to the jam! If it is text-only, you can submit it in a text file using Notepad, Wordpad or Word. If it's a single image or multiple images meant to be viewed as a slideshow, you can submit a single image directly to the jam or zip everything up and submit. The process is the same if it is a gamified tutorial - just zip the BAKIN project as is or deploy to an executable game file, then zip and submit!
This was a non-ranked, non-prize jam, but Feather has graciously offered services to the winner:
-a custom artwork or low poly 3D model by RPGDB community member Feather!
The winner will be listed on my itch.io page as an AmalgamAsh jam winner as always!
Yes, some simple rules!
-Must be a tutorial, must involve RPG Developer BAKIN.
-Tutorials must be in English, but can be presented in multiple languages as long as English is included!
-No NSFW (...I don't know why there would be, but you never know).
-Entries will be looked at on AmalgamAsh's YouTube channel, likely in a single video compilation. Please be advised that some portion of your tutorial content may be shared in this manner!
Special Rule: Yes Patchwork, you are required to participate. >:]
