Welcome to the Threads of Lachesis Jam!

What is Threads of Lachesis?

Threads of Lachesis (TOL), is a system reference document to create games with branched random prompts that the player organizes into a sequence via a single roll and grouping of 10d6.

Games created with this system can hyper-focus on the span of a second, an hour, a day or zoom out and view the span of a family’s generational legacy, a civilization, or a galaxy. It can be used to quickly create rich and varied character backstories or used for world-building to generate the major and minor events of a nation or continent.

Before writing all the prompts, see this comment on the prompt choices with dice combinations. It does reduce the required number.

Jam Info

This Jam is for creating content using Threads of Lachesis - it is available for free and includes the full SRD with illustrative references, and also a prompt writing template in xlsx, ods, and google sheet formats.

Your game can be paid (you're worth it!), pwyw, or free.

You can submit any game, generator, creator, hack, or mechanic you've created using Threads of Lachesis in any way. Submissions may be in any format - .pdf, .txt, .afpub, .xlsx, .docx, etc. If you have any questions about TOL or creating content for it, please feel free to reach out with any questions on Twitter.

Optional Theme

We have a randomized three-word theme for this jam. After clicking the randomizer 72 times (my favorite number) these were the three words it spit out! Choose to use one word, two, or all three! Or do your own thing, that's fine too:

Freighter

Waterfall

Sausage

FAQ

Can I submit a late entry?
Yes! Contact us and we will send you a late entry link for submission.

Do I also write entries for the "Concepts"?
You can, yes. When a player looks up what concept the Act will be about, you can write a narrative, an introduction, ask some questions to help them start, or anything else you want.

Can I write just single prompts and not worry about duplicate numbers?
Absolutely. If you do that, have a note in your document of how you would like players to handle a duplicate number when it arises.

What are some ways I can reduce the number of prompts I have to write??
Check out the "Reducing Complexity" section in the SRD. We give several methods of reducing the number of required prompts.

I have an idea but requires me to change [some mechanic] of Threads of Lachesis. Is that okay?
Yes! That qualifies as a hack. Please hack away at Threads of Lachesis to make it work for you. We love to see how people tweak and change things to fit their ideas.

This Jam's page is very bright, isn't it?
Yeah, it really is.

Do you have a Discord to talk about the Jam?
Not yet, but we are working on getting a server set up!
