Trijam is a weekly game jam where your goal is to make something playable (and fun!) in just 3 hours, and our history shows that it’s more than just possible! Here’s a short video explaining how it works if you don’t feel like reading the page.
The rules are simple: try your best to make the game in 3 hours, but even if you can’t - still submit it, you are allowed to go overtime! The time only counts for building your game, that is, any coding, making sound effects/music, art, and other assets. Writing a design doc, coming up with ideas, compiling your game, or making the itch.io page for it does not!
You can split your time into however many chunks you want, too - work on it for 3 hours straight, or for one hour each session, or any other way you may prefer!
Have a team? Great! Everyone on your team gets their own 3 hours! One person may focus on one part, another on another, and so on. There are no restrictions on team sizes, so invite your friends!
Using pre-made assets is no problem, just make sure that you have the necessary rights to use them, and attribute them in your game’s description properly.
Also, if possible, prefer web/HTML5 builds of your games so more people can play them!
Every week, the community (that’s you!) votes on the theme for the jam out of 5 themes we arbitrarily choose. We sometimes take theme suggestions too! Join our Discord (see below) to take part in that. You are free to interpret every theme in any way.
The theme gets announced every Friday, along with the next jam’s page on our Discord.
The jam takes place every weekend from Friday 9 AM UTC - Monday 10 PM UTC, so there is plenty of time for you to take part!
After the jam is over, the voting period starts and ends on Wednesday 7 PM UTC.
The games are rated in a 5 star system in the following categories:
You can vote however you like, as long as your votes are consistent across all games. Whether 4/5 for graphics means “it’s nice” or “it’s not that nice” to you, make sure to apply that to all games equally! Thanks!
Every week after the jam has ended, we have two streamers who will play your games and give feedback. They are:
Rocknight Studios (Twitch) will livestream your games on Wednesday. They will need either a Linux or a web/HTML5 build of your game.
Paanch Tanmatra Studio (YouTube) will livestream your games on Tuesday. They can also play Windows games.
To get notifications on these livestreams, join our Discord where you can chat with fellow jammers!
