BREAKING NEWS!

Our fearless tech priests have cracked the code at the heart of Twine and discovered a prophecy embedded in its 1s and 0s. The prophecy reads, Twine games will light the paths of the future. Yes, a digital apocalypse has been prophesied! And Twine games will be the only sources of knowledge to survive. We are sending out a call to all game devs, in order to preserve the world's most critical information for future generations. We have until July 31st to develop and gather these games!

THE CALL

We're looking for games of all genres, topics, and lengths that teach the player how to do something. How to dance, how to argue, how to fall in love, how to tell a knock-knock joke --- how to be human. We need it all! After the deadline, there will be open voting to determine which games represent the best guides for humanity.

We have reached out to a few streamers and other content creators to play some of the entries in August. Join our discord server for announcements related to this!

RULES

  • Submissions must follow the theme of 'teaching the player to do something', but feel free to interpret it creatively!
  • Submissions must be made with Twine (Twine 1, Twine 2, or any Twee compiler), using any story format.
  • You must have permission to use any assets (code, images, sound, etc.) that you did not create yourself. You must credit the original creator accordingly.
  • Submissions may be of any genre. NSFW submissions are allowed, provided they are properly labeled and don't break any of Itch.io's rules or guidelines. Please use content warnings for your submission (whether they are SFW or not) where appropriate.

FAQ

Q: Does my game need to be 'educational'?
No, not in the traditional sense. Get creative with it! You can write anything from a goofy story about how to fail on a first date to a horror story about how to survive a slasher film. Any genre, any topic, and the 'how-to lesson' can be implicit or explicit.

Q: What's the deal with voting?
Voting will be open to the public for two weeks, from Aug 1st to Aug 15th. Note that voting is simply for fun and bragging rights. There are no prizes for winning. That said, we want voting to be fair. You should encourage people to come and vote on the games. You should not tell people to specifically vote for or against certain games. Authors who do so will have their submission removed.

Q: Are Twine games actually apocalypse-proof?
Mmmmaybe not. :) Only time will tell.
