Theme of Jam

Jam Rules

All games submitted to the jam are required to be made within the time frame of the jam. We will not accept games made prior.

Legal

Anything you make during Unidos Game Jam is your property. Latinx In Gaming claims no rights or ownership of your game. 

Any game submitted may show up in Latinx in Gaming's social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn) and Twitch channel without your expressed permission. 

Who can participate?

Anyone 18 and older can participate in the jam. Latinx in Gaming is hosting the jam to celebrate our heritage and community but we want to extend the opportunity to anyone interested in participating outside of our community. 

What platform can I use to make my game/experience?

Any platform you feel comfortable using as long as the game can run on Windows (without the need to install other programs) or browsers, to itch.io. You can support other platforms too, if you'd like (Mac and/or Linux). No physical games, Super Mario Maker levels, Dreams (PS4) games, or games that require an emulator to run.

What assets can I use? 

Any assets that you have made, purchased, or downloaded with proper licensing are permitted.

Who will judge the games? 

As we've done in the past, we will select 3 professional developers from the Latinx in Gaming community to play the games and select winners between October 14 - 20.  Winners will be announced on October 25, 2024 through Latinx in Gaming socials (Twitter/X, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn) and our Discord server.

Modifiers

We would like to offer a few modifiers that may help you think outside the box. Although using Challenges is not required, they may help you make a unique game you have never thought about before!

Lengua Indígena - Use an indigenous language of Latin America (i.e. Nahuatl, Quechua, Guarani, Aymara, Mapundung, etc.)

Ancestral - Use of ancestral knowledge and history, like folklore, mythology, tradition, food, landscape, etc.

Activista - Speak on a civil issue in your country or community

Oye Mi Canto - Create original or use free-to-use music and sound design inspired by Latin America or the Caribbean

Mi Vida - Focus the game's narrative on personal lived experiences or stories

What will the games be judged on?

Quality, creativity, and relation to the theme. The judges will be picking their favorite games for the prize pool.

What is the breakdown of the prize pool ?

The judges will select the top 3 games and prize them as follows:

1st place - $1,000 USD

2nd place - $750 USD

3rd place - $500 USD

Is there a Discord I can join? 

Yes! Please join the Latinx In Gaming server. A channel for the game jam will be open for you to use starting August 30, 2024. You'll be able to talk to other jammers to brainstorm, form teams, and receive feedback  or help.
