The fourth -the first Unofficial Otter Game Jam!
This jam, unlike the previous Otter Jams (1, 2, 3) is not officially associated California Monterey Bay State University or the Communication Design program. It is still hosted by professor Katie Green, but the format of the jam is quite different from before. See below:
There is no theme this time. However, one important rule must be followed:
Don't work too hard
Game development, and game jams in particular, demand we put a lot of time and energy into our work for it to run at all. Is there any hope for developers to take it easy? In the past Otter Jam gave us a weekend for rapid development. Let's give ourselves a little more time... maybe put in a little LESS effort into this if we feel exhausted, and focus on just having SOMETHING to show! Art may rough be rough around the edges, code bugs seem to come in swarms, and the audio might be a little loud and too soft at the same time. It might look like it's held up with super glue and silly string under the hood, but hell- it runs?
You have a full week to create whatever kind of game you want.
Games do not need to be complete, but they do need to run. They may be related to some other project, but still must be completed within the time limit of the jam and not before. This means you are free to build upon old projects, but this game should be a jam game. Old projects not completed for this jam will be disqualified.
What kinds of game can I submit?
Video games that run on windows, mac, and in the browser are all acceptable. All game engines are acceptable. Please indicate recommendations such as controllers or hardware specifications on the submission page. List the names of all contributors to the project on the submission page. Analog games (such as board games or tabletop games) will require rule-sheets and some documentation of play (photos, video, notes) to be considered.
There are no judges or guest speakers. The winner of the jam will be decided by popular vote.
"Popular" vote in this case being: only those who submit games and contributors to the jam can vote.
Unofficial Game Jamming Week: February 02/27/2023 - March 03/05/2023
Voting ends: March 03/10/2023
Remember, you need to VOTE on time if you participated in the jam!
You have to win to find out what it means.
