Join us for our LIVE Opening Ceremony Stream on Monday 15th June 9:00am BST on Twitch.
Hello and welcome to the 12th Annual Gamejam hosted by the University of Portsmouth! Our Gamejam runs a bit differently to normal jams, in the fact that it is a week long event where staff, students, alumni and industry professionals try to make a game during normal office hours to avoid crunch culture. On the last day of the jam we have industry judges come in to vote on the games in various categories and have an awards ceremony to wrap up the week!
Last year (2019), we attracted 130 entrants to our Gamejam with over 30 games produced! Links to previous Gamejams below (but please note, not all games were submitted to Itch).
Normally we would run our Gamejam physically on University premises, but due to the unprecedented times we face with COVID-19, we have made the decision to move our Gamejam online this year. It is now mandatory for all games to be submitted to this jam page by the deadline to be eligible for judging / awards.
Board games, computer games, card games, VR, mixed media, anything you like. It will be more difficult this year because we have had to move online, but be creative and submit what you can! We will be using Discord to help manage things and encourage all participants to join! There might be opportunities to showcase your games via Livestreaming in Discord channels (more details to follow soon).
You do not need to sign up to the Jam on itch.io, instead please sign up here.
Three random Wikipedia articles will be chosen and used as the themes. All participants will then need to get into teams, with the goal to create a full game using any or all of the provided themes. The event will run from Monday to Thursday. You may work whatever hours works for you and your team but we encourage you to work normal office hours (no more than 7 hours a day) so avoid crunch! There is then be a judging session and showcase to demo the games to other developers and visitors before an awards ceremony on Friday!
NOTE: In order to submit your game to Itch.io, your .zip file must be UNDER 1GB. This won't affect most projects, but please be mindful of the size of your game once compressed. If your file is more than 1GB, you may utilize the Butler tool to upload your files to Itch.io. More info on that here. Also check out Blendo Itch Uploader, a GUI for uploading projects to itch.io.
