Welcome to the first UTM Game Jam Hosted by ISS-Yemen! Get ready for an exciting round of incredible games!

This is an event where you create a game based on a specific theme in just two days. After submission, your game will be voted on by other participants, and you'll also get to vote on other games.

Game jams are a fantastic opportunity to challenge yourself, connect with fellow developers, and discuss your games and their progress. The best part? By the end, you'll have completed a game that you can share with friends, family, and fellow developers!

New to game development and worried about finishing in time? Give it a try anyway! It's a great learning experience; you'll gain a lot from it! Here is a video from Brackeys to help you get ready for your first game jam:

HOW TO GAME JAM! - Brackeys:

Theme: Nostalgia

The theme for this game jam is "Nostalgia." This theme invites you to create a game that evokes fond memories of the past. Nostalgia can be a powerful tool in game design, bringing players back to their childhood, favorite games, or memorable experiences from earlier times.

Examples

  • Retro Platformer: Create a side-scrolling platformer reminiscent of classic games like Super Mario Bros. or Sonic the Hedgehog, with pixel art graphics and chiptune music.
  • Arcade Shooter: Develop a top-down shooter inspired by games like Space Invaders or Galaga, featuring simple controls, vibrant colors, and high score challenges.
  • Text Adventure: Design a text-based adventure game similar to Zork or early interactive fiction, with a focus on narrative and player choices.
  • Puzzle Game: Create a puzzle game inspired by classics like Tetris or Dr. Mario, with familiar gameplay mechanics and retro aesthetics.
  • Point-and-Click Adventure: Develop an adventure game in the style of Monkey Island or King's Quest, with hand-drawn art, witty dialogue, and nostalgic puzzles.

By tapping into the nostalgic elements of gaming history, you can create a game that brings back cherished memories and provides a sense of comfort and familiarity. This theme encourages you to blend the old with the new, combining classic design principles with modern technology to create a unique and memorable experience.

How to Relate Your Game to the Theme

To relate your game to the "Nostalgia" theme, design gameplay, visuals, and audio that resonate with memories of the past. This can involve incorporating retro game mechanics, classic art styles, familiar soundtracks, or references to iconic moments in gaming history.
