Come celebrate the end of the year with us and let loose with those game design and development skills! In November 2018, the UTS Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology will be hosting their Inaugural Student Game Jam. This two day event is chance for students to let their creativity run wild and create a game from scratch. No grades, no job expectations – just a chance to have fun, meet new people, learn new skills!

Themes:

To be announced on Monday 12th November.

Dates:

Monday 12th and Tuesday 13th November 2018

Location:

CB07.03.10B and 10G 

Times:

The above location will be open from 9am-6pm both days and organizing staff will be present during these times.

Participants should plan to be at this location from:

  • 9am-midday 12th November: For registration signup, group forming, and initial brainstorming.
  • 4pm-6pm 12th November: For a Day 1 Wrap Session with dinner
  • 4pm-6pm 13th November: For final submission of entries, judging, Day 2 Wrap Session with dinner, and prizes

Prizes:

  • Winner winner chicken dinner  -  Best Game Overall that Fits the Themes ($100 JB HiFi Gift Vouchers)
  • Pikachu, I choose you!  -  Organisers' Favourite Game (chosen by William, Jaime, Luke, and Jason)
  • What did I just play?!?  -  Most Innovative Game / Creative Use of Themes
  • Even a child could be 1337  -  Most Intuitive / Pickup-and-Play Game 
  • Its soooo pretty!  -  Best Visuals / Audio 
  • Destroyer of friendships  -  Best Multiplayer Experience 
  • (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻  -  Most Challenging Game 
  • Deal with it  -  The Weirdest Game (Wooden Spoon Award)

Each award winner above will receive a certificate and winners will be listed on the GamesStudio.org website for posterity. All awards (except for "Pikachu, I choose you!") will be voted on by all registered participants of the Game Jam.

As well as the main prize, there is up to 15 more $25 JB HiFi Gift Vouchers for the other awards, which will be awarded in order of the above listing. In cases where a team wins multiple awards, they will receive multiple certificates but the $25 JB HiFi vouchers will be given to winners of other awards down the list to better distribute the prizes.

Submissions:

At the end of the first day (Monday) please create an initial submission of your game (even if its just the title and description) to let others know who is in the running.

For the final submission, please provide at least one of the following with your submission (in order of preference)

1) Web player link
2) PC / Mac executable builds
3) A video / Youtube link of your game

You will need to be present between 5pm and 6pm on Tuesday 13th to host your game on your laptop and for others to test and vote on.
