About VGDA
We are the Video Game Development Association (VGDA). This is an official university organization under California State University, Long Beach. We are dedicated to helping CSULB students learn how to create their own games and experience the game development process!
"Little and Big"
There needs to be at least one person on your team who is currently attending CSULB as a student. VGDA is an organization that is under CSULB, and we want to help CSULB students who are interested in game development.
Please make sure your game is made in some way under the jam theme. There can be many interpretations of this theme, so don’t be afraid to get creative!
Make sure you fill out a game design document (GDD) first before starting on your game. We recommend using our VGDA GDD template, but you’re free to make your own just as long as the information from the VGDA GDD template is also on there.
You cannot start on game development until a VGDA officer approves your game design document. We usually will reach out on Discord or through CSULB student email if Discord is not possible
The tentative deadline for this game jam is December 6th!
This day will also be our VGDA Launch Day! This is not only where you can showcase a game you made for this game jam, but also have food, socialize, and potentially hear from industry guest speakers.
Because of this, we strongly encourage you to create a game prototype that can be realistically made by the end of this semester. We don’t expect you to make a perfect game, especially if it’s your first time in game dev. We care much more about you experiencing the process, learning new skills, and hopefully using what you’ve learned to create even better games in the future!
