WASM-4 is a fantasy console that can run games written in any language that compiles to WebAssembly.

This game jam has a $2500 prize pool, sponsored by our friends at Wasmer!

Wasmer is the most popular WebAssembly runtime, WASM-4 recently started supporting it as a runtime for running the Wasm games.
WAPM is the package manager to distribute the WebAssembly applications anywhere, and it can serve as perfect place to store WASM-4 games.

Here's a video from our first game jam that's a good intro to how WASM-4 works.

WASM-4 includes direct support for AssemblyScript, C, C++, D, Go, Nelua, Nim, Odin, Rust, WAT, Zig. Other languages have also been used. See the website for full documentation!

HARDWARE

• Display: 160x160 pixels, 4 customizable colors, updated at 60 Hz.
• Memory: 64 KB linear RAM, memory-mapped I/O, save states.
• Cartridge Size Limit: 64 KB.
• Input: Keyboard, mouse, touchscreen, up to 4 gamepads.
• Audio: 2 pulse wave channels, 1 triangle wave channel, 1 noise channel.
• Disk Storage: 1024 bytes.

RATING

Games will be rated in these four categories:

Fun: How much you enjoyed your time playing the game.

Concept: How interesting or unique the main focus of the game is.

Polish: How well executed and presented the main focus of the game is.

Tech: How impressive the game is at a technical level.

PRIZES

Our panel of judges will independently rate each game using the above criteria.

Prizes will be distributed to the top four games:

1st place: $1000

2nd place: $750

3rd place: $500

4th place: $250

Important notes about prizes:

• To qualify for a prize, games must be submitted to wapm using these instructions. If you have any questions about this process, please don't hesitate to reach out on Discord.
• The deadline for submitting your game to wapm is August 24 (3 days after the jam deadline).
• Prizes will be transferred to the winners using Wise, please ensure that your country is on the list of supported countries.
• Winners will be revealed on August 25, 6:00 PM EST and contacted shortly after!

• Ben Smith: Former chair of the WebAssembly community group, and emulator hacker.
• Loris Cro: VP of Community at the Zig Software Foundation.
• Syrus Akbary: Founder and CEO at Wasmer.
• Ben Visness: Head at the Handmade Network, a community of programmers producing quality software through deeper understanding.
• Tom / Context Free: The polyglot programmer, Tom has a YouTube channel about programming languages and is a WASM-4 contributor.
• Bruno Garcia: Hey that's me! I started WASM-4 and love small tech.

RULES

No NSFW nor discriminatory content (see Contributor Covenant 2.1 for what that means)

Multiple entries are allowed, but only one game per person will be eligible for a prize.

Solo or team entries are allowed. Prizes will be evenly split among team members.

Existing games are not allowed. Feel free to use assets and code from previous projects, but make something new!

Your entry needs to be a cartridge that runs on WASM-4. Other than that, how exactly you build your game is up to you. There is no theme limitation for this jam.
