- Cute game with a nice unexpected hook. The response to the controls are a little touchy and challenging (W pulls you both up and back at a pretty quick speed, while S drops you forward and down) in less positive ways. I had a memory that was behind a sign and I wasn't entirely clear on the collision so ultimately crashed into the sign. The pace was relaxing at times though there were stretches that had little interaction or engagement which moved the game away from a feeling of cruising along as those moments made me want to engage with something.
- Love the intro cinematic, and the story truly got to me! :')
- Game Art: What works well? Absolutely beautiful illustration in the opening and for the plane itself. Love the idea of collecting photographs and seeing sketches that bring back memories to tell a story. What could be improved? Detailing on the obstacles could create more interesting gameplay (vs. “competing” against blocks) Quality of Design: What works well? Gameplay is simple and approachable. What could be improved? While the game may change later on, the speed of play early on is quite slow. If the player’s focus is meant to be elsewhere, there isn’t anything drawing it to there and most of the playtime is spent idle. Quality of Audio: What works well? Delightful piano music that does a good job of both accompanying the feeling of “soaring” and walking down memory lane. What could be improved? Variety of music and blending the starts and ends of songs so that they transition seamlessly (so as not to distract the player with unexpected silence) Quality of Writing/Narrative: What works well? Very clever to tell the story progressively by having the player’s objective be collecting photographs (or is it memories?) and slowly unraveling the tale of what’s happened. What could be improved? For the amount of time that the player spends watching obstacles and the background pass by, these - too - could be storytelling elements and fit the overarching theme of environmental storytelling.
