A new year brings with it an opportunity to become someone new. Someone who actually uses that gym membership rather than just paying for it. Someone who reads books, not just social media feeds. Someone who finally goes after their dreams because you've been saying "one day" for far too many days.

But why put in all the effort and growth to become that person when you can instantly become whoever you want by ROLEPLAYING as someone else? Someone who already has all of the traits you want!

The Challenge

All of that is just a fun way of saying that the jam is about making an RPG. It can be a video game or an analog/tabletop game. It can even be a "game" in quotation marks. All that matters is that you take on the role of someone else. You can put the player in someone's shoes or have them create a character. Heck, they can even roleplay as themselves in a different situation. The character can even be an animal, plant, inanimate object, or whatever inspires you (and, hopefully, inspires them).

All entries must be released during the jam period! Nothing that released prior to January 5th can be entered, but feel free to throw things you released previously into the community and share them if they fit :D

The goal —optional, but awesome if you go for it— is to make a game (or "game": something that could loosely be called a game but is an activity, merely meant to be read, an IRL activity, or something else) in which you teach the player something about self-growth, or make them feel like they can be greater than they currently are. You can do this bluntly by putting them in the shoes of someone brave or kind; you can do it by having them roleplay scenarios like calling strangers or doing good deeds; or you can do it in underhanded ways, like having them play the opposite of who you want them to be and showing them how awful that is. It's all up to you!

Additional Stuff

This is an unranked jam that will not result in a bundle. It's just for fun and to inspire you! 🥳 There are no prizes except pride for making something, which you TOTALLY deserve!

BUT I do plan to write about all of the entries after the jam ends unless we manage to get a bunch of entries lol, in which case I'll pick and choose some. I'll do this on our Patreon, which is basically just a blog, and our posts are free for everyone to see :D What we write will focus on the positive, on what we enjoy, and won't include any negativity or downsides to creations, so don't be worried. 🧡 But with that said, we're small creators and only have about 400 followers of our Patreon, so don't expect us to send a bunch of sales your way lol

We do ask that you make your creation free for people in the jam, maybe running through a week or two after the jam ends (when the jam ends, I'll email everyone who joined to remind people to check out the entries). Whether you run a temporary sale, add community copies, or link in a comment to a Google Drive folder with the file or something, it's all good. But this is ENTIRELY OPTIONAL! I do hope you charge for your creation regularly, though, you deserve it for the hard work you put into it :D
