Welcome to the Winter Arc: Learn Something New Game Jam!

This jam is all about stepping out of your comfort zone, trying something new, and leveling up your skills over the winter. Whether you've always wanted to dabble in pixel art, learn a new programming language, compose music, or even experiment with a completely different game engine—this is your chance!

The rules are simple: you have 3 months to pick up a new skill or refine an existing one, then apply what you've learned to make a game. You can work solo or with a team.

What kind of game? Any type of game! This can be a Video Game, TTRPG, Interactive Fiction, board games, even something else entirely—if you can call it a game, it counts!

It can even be one you've already started! Or it could be something new if you prefer.

Optional Rules:

Note: These are purely optional rules if you wish to challenge yourself a bit more :)

  • New Skills Only: You must pick a brand new skill to learn. Maybe something you've always wanted to try but never had the time.
  • New Genre: The game you choose to make must be in a genre you've never developed for. E.g: if you usually make RPGs, make a shooter or Visual Novel.
  • Double Up: Consider this hard mode -- You must learn 2 skills over the 3 Month Winter Arc.

Optional Themes:

Note: Same as the rules above, these are purely optional and just for inspiration.

  • Winter: The game must be about winter or winter related concepts (holidays/symbolism/weather/etc)
  • Psychological Horror: The game must involve psychological horror in some way.

No pressure, no strict rules—just good vibes, self-improvement, and a chance to connect with others in the game dev community. Share your progress, get feedback, and celebrate your growth along the way!

Let’s make this winter an unforgettable arc in your dev journey. ❄️
