Hello everyone! Welcome to the first-ever official YGDA Game Jam hosted by the Young Game Developer's Association!
The game jam is a week-long event about creating a complete game focused on a specific theme. After the submission period, the game gets voted on by other participants as well as the community. Game jams are not only an amazing experience, but they allow you to prototype designs, mechanics, you name it without much investment. Even if you have never made a game before, try it out - it's definitely worth it!
Our admins worked hard to come up with a fun theme that provides guidance but creative freedom. If you want to get notifications of more updates or discuss the theme, join our Discord Server and Facebook Group.
Games can not include any content that is NSFW, or offensive/discriminatory. At YGDA, we strive to foster a healthy community for all game developers, so please be mindful; we want our games to be enjoyed by everyone!
Other than that, feel free to use any game engine or framework! 3rd-party assets are allowed as long as you own the rights to use them; however, for those looking for that extra challenge, you can always make everything yourself and be extra proud of your work at the end!
Teams are allowed and encouraged! However, we do recommend a maximum of 4 people for communication reasons due to the relatively short time frame.
Games are rated according to the following categories: Fun, Game Design, Innovation, Theme, Graphics, and Audio. These are a lot of categories, so don't worry if you can't hit them all perfectly. Overall, just be creative and stick to the theme!
After the submission period ends, you will have one week to rate games! There is no minimum eligibility to win, however, more votes increase your chance of winning. So, be sure to play a lot of other games!
Winners are decided by the best score over all categories earning a shoutout at the top of the jam page, a fancy role in the Discord server, and the "well-respected" title of the first YGDA game jam winner! But remember, it's a game jam - participation is what it's all about!
