Which two keys are best to use?

I mean, it's a very nit-picky question. But just wondering, for example A and D are one key apart. Not ideal. What about < and > or Z and X keys? They are next to each other, but it's an unusual solution... I wish there were universally agreed keys lol.

Let player choose as they launch the game ;)

i would say the two mouse button (personally i'm gonna use this ones)

The best it to have several sets of keys.

The jam is 2 buttons in the way that only 2 buttons should be enough to play. But you can allow players to use several sets of keys, as they please.

In fact, it's better this way!

So you could give possibility to use:

- X and C

- K and L

- the 2 mouse buttons (I'm not a big fan personnally so in this example I would use X and C)

"Z and X" or "A and D" are a bit risky because for people who don't use a QWERTY keyboard they are not next to each other (I use an AZERTY of example).

yes!

My game is will be a ROM file, so my controls depends on the emulator you use, so they might not be next to each other, or they might be. IDK, but is that okay?

That's ok.

F and J is also not a bad idea, but it will not be good at some situations

my controls are A and L

In an optimal case, A, Q, W, and Z are to be avoided, because they don't have the same location on some keyboards.

You can offer different duos of keys, though.

Like :

- K and L
- S and D
- E and O
