Hi, I watched the stream. Sorry for the confusion. The opening part you played was supposed to be like an intro-before-the-title kind of thing, and story-wise kind of like an orientation/training kind of thing. Then, it goes to menu, and you click the "fill out application" and it is to give a name to the character you play as. Then the real game starts and customers come up to the counter giving vague descriptions of what kinds of movies they want to see, and you use the movie database in the kind to find the movies that they would be happy with. The game is somewhat long. But, for a quick playthrough, a player can give the wrong movie answer on all of them and not get fired--I figured because it's their first day, and there is some story-reasoning too, later on. There is a scoring system, but it's not emphasized. But, customers give different responses depending on if you give them a good movie recommendation or not.
The second part of the game is like a Commodore-64 kind of game, kind of like a 2D RPG. The first part of the game, at least graphics-wise, I was thinking of it as being kind of like Parappa the Rapper with cartoony big lines. They don't move around, however. Gameplay-wise, the first part is a job simulator and there were a lot of those during PS1/N64, or like Theme Hospital.
