Can I use different shades of the four colors?

So if I were to use red, blue, yellow and green can I use different shades of red, blue, yellow and green or do I have to use one shade?

Never mind, I found a post about it. Thank you!

If this is okay, then my game can have shadows, I can set the shadows to be split into the discrete colors so that it fits the limitation correctly. Otherwise no shadows.

The idea was to just have 4 colors total, including shades. So for what I had in mind, that wouldn't fit the limitation. But if you really feel the need to have shades, then you can go ahead I guess.
