I liked being able to upgrade but also was confused at.. how much I can upgrade and how to place the guns so they fire? I'm not sure if I did it right, but I ended up with a big thing that still only fired one bullet at a time.
I saw your other comment about color and that's fair, but I think you could still use some different shades of gray/white/black to distinguish things. At some point I totally lost my ship in the blocks and it's also hard to tell which bullets are mine or the enemies'. Pretty neat though
Inspired by the ambition of euclidean-whale I also got the source code, built it and played it and I have to say I like what you managed to get done here. Simple, clean concept - I was just not skilled enough to survive long enough to test out my new guns. Adding more weapons to the ship and stuff like that is a seriously fun concept and after the jam I would love to see you flesh this out some more, because I love this type of game.
Thank you for playing!
Unless my motivation goes low, I will turn this into something closer to a real game over the next two weeks, and publish whatever I added after the voting is over. I am thinking about turning this into a roguelite with "Slay the spire"-like map navigation. If you have any request per what types of enemies or weapons you'd like being added please let me know!
Do you know any other games where you built your own ship/character? I can only think of Faster Than Light and Armored Core, which both are pretty different from what I am trying to make (also i have not played either of them).
Thanks for providing source code so I could check this out on my mac. It currently depends on your local fork of bevy which I obviously don't have access to, but I just changed that to the latest crates.io release and it seemed to work fine?
The low contrast made the combat feel pretty confusing, and I feel like the mouse would have been a better option for aiming. I liked having keyboard controls available though.
Do extra guns on the ship not do anything currently? I added some but they don't seem to fire.
This seems like a cool idea. Sorry, it's a bit hard to give feedback with the game in its current state.
Thanks for trying it out!
I completly forgot about the local bevy... I will change that soon.
Monochromacity was part of the design, because I am colorblind and don't like to work with colors. I probably should change the color of the enemies to help distinguish friendly and enemy bullets.
Guns should work, but you have to click a second time after placing to choose a direction. I hope that helps?
You gave some feedback about colors and controls, and I really thank you for that!
