Hi,

This is my first GameJam, I will try to post updates about my process here!

My Game is called !Real (meaning not real, duh). I tried to keep it simple for myself by creating a 2D platformer with 10 to 20 levels. Futhermore the game contains 1 bit, black and white graphics with some post processing effects.

The catch is that the game itself is not real but is simply a game. Also some platforms are glitched out, they disappear or you fall through. So in a sense they are not real. In the end it is revealed that is was all just a game.

Here is a moodboard for my game that I created:

UPDATE [20/23-02-2022]

I started my first game journey on Sunday when I say this Game Jam appear on my radar, I immediately wanted to join because I wanted to create a game for some time now and I had a holiday that week. I seemed like the perfect opportunity. I started brainstorming ideas and I came up with the idea above. However, Monday and Tuesday I was going on vacation so I could work on my game. So my development started on Wednesday. I started with setting up a Unity project (which I haven't done in a while). A few updates later I made a new project. I followed some of Brackeys tutorials to create a framework for a 2D game. I didn't make much process but I have now a 2D game with tile and a character and some post processing effect. (Yes I started with that before my character could move...). I will continue with movement on Thursday and try to make some platforms as well. Friday I will try to make some levels and menus. What do you guys think about this progress??

I really like the art style of this game. It looks cool. :)

Thankss! I am just using black and white sprites with a few post processing effects (Chromatic Aberration, bloom and grain), but it does look cool :)

Update after playing: Looks AWESOME :)) Love the character but a bit slow and doesnt jump at the right time :D Would be great if you add some sound and a way to go back to menu! :)) I was playing halfway when my teacher called me and press P, escape... like crazy then I had to alt f4 :))) GREAT game tho :D

P.S: Lesson learned: NEVER EVER play games while learning XD

[UPDATE 26-02-2022]

It's the middle of the night, I finish all the levels and made a title screen and ending. However I didn't add music. I'm not sure if it is required but I'll try to do it tomorrow morning before the deadline...

What do you guys think?

I love post processing but I can never add it to my projects because:

A: I run out of time.

B: I put too much and it looks bad.

Haha that is true. I added the post processing really early on, which is ironic because it is POST processing but I really wanted my game to have that glitchy look and the chromatic aberration filter worked perfectly :)

Thanks
