I FINALLY DID IT!!! I sort of cheated by sneaking out of the screen by moving all the way up (sorry!) but it was worth it! I cried when I got the green "Elk 'abunga" victory screen!!
Dang! This might be one of the hardest gamejam games I've ever played!! ;)
I almost got to the lodge (after juking those insane hunters) I took forever just passing the 2nd hunter and then in one swoop I almost passed the rest of them (I was like holy CRAP!!) it is a great example of, so close yet so far... But still lots of fun trying to get past those hunters! I like the graphics, the sound effects added a quirky atmosphere to the game. The only big thing was the hitbox for the elk, I kept thinking I would be out of range of the bullet but I'd still get hit, although that did add greatly to the difficulty which I found wasn't such a bad thing once you know you need that much space (also, that 2nd hunter was so impossible, I LOVE IT!) One little thing that would be interesting is if the hunters could kill eachother which could give you a chance to get them out of your way! Great job overall!
wonderingmonster, you are on point with those suggestions. thanks! :)
The sounds effects were charming and cute. The mindmap in the beginning was an interesting way to quickly explain how everything worked. I didn't really feel in control of the stealth. I think the randomness of the squeaking can work well to increase tension and risk, but that the player should then have some tools to deal with the resulting danger, like a limited sprint option or places to hide.
If I had more time I would have modified my collision masks more and tightened some stuff up. It's a fun take on a stealth game, I think. :)
Thanks for the kind comment @TheCalster.
I might dive into it more, we'll see.
The core mechanic focused on sound was really interesting!
I feel like if this idea was fleshed out a bit more, the game could be even more fun :)
